History

Tamworth has a long and rich history when it comes to the performing arts. With drama, choral and musical societies, the regional conservatorium of music, brass and pipe bands, a clarinet choir, several dance groups & schools and of course the deep veins of country music, Tamworth is has a vibrant cultural community.

The theatre takes its name from the previous Capitol Theatre, which stood almost in the same position and was demolished in 1984. Its façade fronted Brisbane Street in the same position of the Centrepoint car park.
